A Peek Inside!

Welcome to a day in the Crunchy Household. I wanted to find a way to allow you to have a peek into a 'typical' day of learning in our house. A think a picture journal is the best way. We don't follow a super strict schedule, but rather we have a rhythm that has kinda developed over the past year that really works for us. I hope you enjoy!

We try to start our learning around 9 am. Daddy leaves the house at 8:30 and that gives us time to get ready and complete morning chores. We always start with Bible time and prayer. Lately, we have been using Grapevine (review coming). We love learning about the Bible together. Popper has been reading our daily lessons and then we complete the timeline and stick people pictures together. Brother Bear loves to add to his drawings while Popper reads.

Next, we work on math. Popper is using Math-U-See (another upcoming review). It is very hands-on. He loves doing math now. Brother Bear has Count and Color for Boys and Sister has Kitty Doodle Math. Both of these book are journals made by Sarah's children over at The Thinking Tree. They love that they get to be involved more with learning numbers!

From there, it's Dyslexia Games time. I cannot express how much this has helped my right-brained-boys! Not only do they love working on it, they are learning letters, numbers, and Popper's reading has improved so much! Sister has decided that she wanted to join in. Thankfully, I have the PDF and was able to print her off pages of her own.

We are starting a listening time where we either listen to an audio book or classical music. I allow them to play in kinetic sand or Play-Doh during this time. This is quickly becoming my favorite part of my day. We are finding that there are some great classical artists that we love. Our newest favorite is Lindsey Stirling!

After our group learning, the kiddos have independent learning time. This is delight-directed time. Popper loves Word Hunts from The Thinking Tree. He also enjoys listening and reading stories on the EPIC app. His interests this year have included Egypt, space, origami, pop-up books, and more! I love watching him learning to love learning!

Brother Bear has special time with me in the afternoons working through 'Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Steps.' We enjoy the cuddle time! He also enjoys building with his blocks, drawing, and watching educational shows. He is the hardest one to get pictures of. He loves to explore and he is very good at hiding from my camera!

Sister has a lot of different things that she enjoys and she loves to pose for the camera! She likes to draw, do puzzles and play learning games on Nick Jr. She also is my big helper in the kitchen at lunch and snack time. She has learned to sort and count all while making lunch plates!

This is a 'typical' day in our world. Some days the learning continues outside in the afternoons, some days we continue looking through the microscope until bedtime. My favorite part about our days is that learning is a natural part of our lives. We are learning to love learning as a family. I think that is the most important part!
