#MomSchool Week 1

This past week I officially started my Mom School Challenge. I have been challenged by Linda over at Homeschooling 6 to learn along side my kiddos for the next 6 weeks. I was really excited to get started. I picked my books that I would personally be enjoying and then decided to also learn using some of the same books as the kiddos.

I love to read! I have always enjoyed curling up with a good book and getting lost in it. However, with homeschooling 3, taking care of the house, and all the other responsibilities that are on my plate, I have made very little time for me to read something for myself. Something that wasn't related to what I was teaching my kids. Until this week!....

We start our days with Bible time.  We have been using Grapevine Studies during this time together. The stick figure art that they use is so helpful for my visual learners and this mom who doesn't draw. I decided to just use this as my (extra) Bible time too. This week we studied The Last Supper.  It was good for the kiddos to talk about Jesus and what His last week on Earth looked like. Also, discussing what He did for us. I love the questions that they ask. I love watching the 'light bulb go off' for them when they get it!

I found these cute little nature journals at Simply Rachel.   There were supposed to be pages that you could buy to glue into your journal, but I could not get the link to work. So, I designed my own cover sheet. I thought you might like it too. I made a free PDF  that allows you to print your own copy!
It ended up being insanely windy (40 mph winds) the day that we made it.  Instead of going outside for a walk, the kiddos and I looked at our nature books to draw pictures of animals, insects, and plants!

The challenge from Linda included using a student journal for our learning time. I tried, I really did. I used mine for 2 days.  I did not use the video page. I have a bad habit of once I turn on the TV during the day, not wanting to turn it off. So, I chose to leave it off.

After those 2 days, I missed my mom journal. My Mom Journal is The Busy Mom's Homeschooling Handbook.  There are so many pages that I love in my journal that were not in the student journal that I had decided to use. Such as, the 'Plans and Perspectives' page. I love this page. On days that I am feeling overwhelmed, it really helps me put things back into focus. I know that there is a student version of this journal as well that I probably could have ordered. Since, I already had my mom's version I went back to it.

My mom's journal does not have any of the logic pages and one of the things I learned is that I love them. I decided to print off Dyslexia Games Series C Book 1.  These pages are amazing. They really helped calm my nerves. Seriously, I am in love with them. There were several days when I had to make myself stop at 3 pages.

This week was one of tweaking and learning how to fit in the learning along side them. I was saddened by how many opportunities in the past I had overlooked before this week to really learn with them.  Now that I am making it a point to #MomSchool, I am constantly looking for ways to enjoy my kids.

This next week I will continue reading about Monet, Anne of Green Gables, we are going to learn about Pentecost, I will be starting The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, and the kids and I will be learning about Mozart.

Did you join us for the challenge? I would love to hear about your week with your kids.
